Welcome to my website. My name is Oliver Smart and I have been taking wildlife images for about 7 years. It really has been slow progress but since I have moved into the digital arena I feel I have taken a great leap forward in my picture taking. It all really started in 1998 when I went to Titchwell; bird watching with my grandfather. It was a magical day even though it poured with rain and was the first time I really started to note what I saw and record my sightings and events. |

Since that wet and windy day I have been heavily involved with photography and conservation. During the small amount of spare time that I have I am a dedicated warden at Puxton Moor Nature Reserve on the North Somerset Levels and Moors, which is managed by the Avon Wildlife Trust. I also volunteer at the wonderful Ham Wall RSPB Reserve on the Somerset Levels near Glastonbury. This large wetland reserve is growing on a daily basis both in the number of visitors and the amount of wildlife that enjoys the area.
Since March 2004 I have taken on another hobby in the form of bird ringing. As you'll see from my ringing pages, it is impossible to describe what a privilege it is to be able to handle birds and enjoy them in this unique way.
Since September 2004 I have been studying Ornithology at the University of Birmingham. After spending a good deal of the summer of 2006 with my head in textbooks I can thankfully announce that I passed the course! It has been a fascinating insight into the biology, ecology and physiology of birds and I can thoroughly recommend the course to anyone.
I hope you'll enjoy the wildlife images as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
